Uploads and transfers

Files saved to a drive, from the Files app, another app, CloudMount’s own browser or a share, land in CloudMount’s cache first and upload in the background:

  • A notification keeps uploads alive after you leave the app. It’s an Android foreground service, which Android allows to keep running. On Android 13 and later, CloudMount asks for notification permission once; if you decline, uploads still run but their status is hidden.
  • Interrupted uploads resume. If Android stops CloudMount, or the phone restarts, waiting uploads continue the next time CloudMount runs: when you open the app or the Files app shows a drive, or when a scheduled job such as photo backup runs. CloudMount doesn’t start by itself when the phone boots.
  • Uploads whose source is gone can’t be retried. Saves from other apps don’t keep a copy of the original outside the cache, so if such an upload fails permanently, save or share the file again.

Settings → Uploads holds uploads until conditions suit you. Held files stay in the cache on the phone, using no data, and upload when the condition is met:

Setting Holds uploads Default
Pause uploads Always, until you resume Off
Upload on Wi-Fi only On mobile data and other metered networks Off
Pause during battery saver While battery saver is on Off
Upload only while charging While the phone isn’t plugged in Off
Quiet hours During a daily window, 22:00 to 07:00 by default Off

The notification shows why uploads are held, with Resume or Upload now. Upload now sends the waiting files despite the rules, once; it doesn’t override Pause uploads. The CloudMount uploads Quick Settings tile pauses and resumes uploads.

If uploads stay held for more than ten minutes, the notification goes away to save battery; the files stay queued. Android 15 and later also limit background data transfers to six hours a day, after which uploads wait until CloudMount runs again.

Upload speed limit caps uploads to between 512 KB/s and 20 MB/s. Downloads and streaming aren’t limited.

The Transfers screen lists uploads, copies and moves, and sync runs, with filters for active, failed and completed. Failed items show which files failed and why, with Retry failed. A home-screen widget shows progress with pause, resume and retry buttons.

Notifications on the Transfer problems channel tell you when an upload fails.

Copy or move files copies or moves files and folders from one drive to another, or between the phone and a drive:

  • You see the total size before you start, and choose what happens to files that already exist: Skip, Replace or Keep both.
  • Within one drive, the copy runs on the server where the backend supports it. Between drives, files stream through the phone.
  • Transfers run one at a time in the background and survive a restart: CloudMount picks up where it left off, skipping files already copied.
  • A failed or cancelled transfer has Retry, which runs it again where it left off.
  • Queued transfers follow the upload rules too.
  • Moving isn’t offered when a folder on the phone is involved or the source is read-only.

Copying between drives needs Pro, because the free plan has one active drive.

CloudMount appears in Android’s share sheet as Upload to CloudMount:

  • Files: up to 100 at a time, to any folder on a drive.
  • Links: Save link here fetches the linked file and streams it through the phone into the drive. Links that need a sign-in, and links to web pages rather than files, don’t work.
  • Text: Save text here saves it as a text file.

Your most recent destinations, up to four, appear as direct-share targets.
