The Android app
Besides putting your drives into the Files app, CloudMount for Android has a full file browser of its own.
Requirements
Section titled “Requirements”- Android 12 or later, on a 64-bit phone or tablet (ARM64 or x86-64).
- Google Play, which installs and updates CloudMount.
- The app is in English.
Browsing
Section titled “Browsing”- List or grid, with pinch to resize the grid. Sort by name, date or size.
- Multi-select for copying, moving, downloading to the phone, keeping offline, deleting and sharing.
- Per-file actions: open, open with another app, share, copy or share a public link (on backends that support it), rename, move, copy, delete, properties, and browse inside archives.
- New folder, Upload file and New text file.
- Favorites: up to 20 folders on the home screen and in destination pickers, plus Add to Home screen for a folder shortcut.
- Open in Files hands the folder over to Android’s Files app.
Viewers, player and editor
Section titled “Viewers, player and editor”CloudMount opens most files without leaving the app:
| Kind | Formats and notes |
|---|---|
| Images | JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, BMP, HEIC, HEIF, AVIF, SVG |
| Video | MP4, MKV, WebM, MOV, AVI, TS and more, streamed with seeking. Subtitles from SRT and VTT files next to the video or from the video itself, and a choice of audio tracks. Keeps playing in Picture in Picture when you leave the app. |
| Audio | MP3, AAC, M4A, FLAC, Ogg, Opus, WAV and more. Keeps playing with the screen off or in another app, with controls in the notification and on the lock screen. |
| Password-protected PDFs aren’t supported. | |
| Text and code | Up to 1 MB shown. |
| Markdown | Rendered or as text. |
| CSV and TSV | As a table. |
| Archives | ZIP, 7z and RAR list their contents without downloading the whole archive; tar, gz, bz2 and xz download first. Extract here or to another folder. Password-protected 7z and RAR archives ask for the password; encrypted ZIP entries, RAR5 and multi-part archives aren’t supported. |
| EPUB | Table of contents, text size, light, sepia and dark themes; remembers your place. DRM-protected books aren’t supported. |
| Comics | CBZ, CBR and CB7, with right-to-left reading. CBZ pages load one by one; RAR and 7z comics download first. RAR5 isn’t supported. |
The player reopens a video or audio file where you stopped, with Start over to go back to the beginning. It remembers files longer than two minutes for 90 days, until you finish them, and keeps those places on the device only, vault files included. Change the playback speed from 0.5× to 2× while you watch or listen. Closing the player stops playback. On a secure lock screen, the notification and media controls hide the name of a file from a vault.
The text editor edits UTF-8 files up to 1 MB with undo, find, line wrap and a Markdown preview, and keeps drafts. If the file changed on the drive while you edited, it offers Save as copy or Overwrite.
Other apps can open EPUBs, comics, PDFs, archives, CSV and Markdown files with CloudMount too, and save them to a drive.
Search across drives
Section titled “Search across drives”Search all drives searches file and folder names on every drive at once:
- Filter by files or folders, type (documents, images, video, audio, archives, books and comics), extension, date and size. A date filter only finds items whose date the drive knows, which most drives don’t for folders.
- Leave drives out of the search.
- Save a search to the home screen (up to 20); saved searches show their last results while they refresh.
Searching lists folders on the drives, so it’s limited to the first 50 matches and 128 folders per drive, and says when it stopped early. Searching more than one drive needs Pro.
Storage insights
Section titled “Storage insights”From a drive’s menu: how full the drive is, usage over time, the largest folders and files, and duplicate files. Duplicates confirmed by checksum can be moved to the trash together, which needs Move deletions to trash on the drive; possible duplicates match only on name and size. Insights scan up to 256 folders and 50,000 files. Quota needs a backend that reports free space; see Free space reporting.
Turn on Move deletions to trash in a drive’s settings and files deleted
in CloudMount or the Files app go to a hidden .cloudmount-trash folder on
the drive instead of being deleted. From the drive’s Trash you can
restore them or delete them for good. Items are kept for 30 days, and expired
ones are removed when CloudMount starts.
- A restored file whose name is taken again gets a name like
report (restored 2026-07-12 145530).pdf. - The trash needs a drive that’s rooted inside a bucket on object storage such as S3, because a bucket list has nowhere to keep it.
- Many services, such as Google Drive and OneDrive, keep a trash of their own. CloudMount’s trash is a second safety net, and works on services that have none, such as SFTP or S3.
Widgets, tile and shortcuts
Section titled “Widgets, tile and shortcuts”- Widgets: transfers (with pause, resume and retry), favorite folders, and continue reading. With App lock on, the favorite folders and continue reading widgets show App lock is on instead of your files.
- Quick Settings tile: pause or resume uploads.
- Shortcuts: long-press the app icon for drives with Show in launcher shortcuts on, or add a drive or folder to the home screen.
Automation
Section titled “Automation”Settings → Uploads → Allow external automation (off by default) lets apps such as Tasker and Automate control CloudMount with broadcast intents. It’s refused while App lock is on.
| Intent | Does |
|---|---|
app.cloudmount.action.PAUSE_TRANSFERS |
Pause uploads |
app.cloudmount.action.RESUME_TRANSFERS |
Resume uploads |
app.cloudmount.action.RUN_MEDIA_BACKUP |
Run photo and video backup now |
app.cloudmount.action.RUN_SYNC_TASK |
Run a sync folder now; extra task is the phone folder’s name |
CloudMount broadcasts app.cloudmount.event.TRANSFERS_DRAINED (extra
failed_count) when every transfer has finished, and
app.cloudmount.event.TRANSFER_FAILED (extras drive and failed_count)
when transfers fail. Events never include file names or paths. Set the
intent’s package to app.cloudmount.
Moving to a new phone
Section titled “Moving to a new phone”Settings → Move to another device sends your configuration to another
phone as a QR code or a shared message, sealed with a one-time code like
K7PM-2XQF-9RTZ. On the new phone, scan the QR code with the camera or take
the shared text, open Receive from another device, paste it, and type the
one-time code. Sign-ins come along, though some
services may ask you to reconnect. See also
Import and export.
