Google Docs, Sheets and Slides
Google Docs, Sheets and Slides aren’t ordinary files: they live only inside Google Drive and have no size or file format of their own. CloudMount for Android shows them as virtual documents, which Android’s Files app knows how to handle.
What you see
Section titled “What you see”- Docs, Sheets and Slides appear in their folders under their own names, without an extension and without a size.
- They can’t be edited in place, and other apps can’t save over them.
- You can rename, move and delete them as usual.
Opening and copying
Section titled “Opening and copying”When you open one, or copy it out of the drive, CloudMount asks Google Drive to export it and streams the result:
| Export format setting | Docs | Sheets | Slides |
|---|---|---|---|
| PDF (default) | |||
| Microsoft Office | DOCX | XLSX | PPTX |
Change it per drive under the drive’s settings → Advanced → Export
format; the setting only appears on Google Drive drives. Apps that ask for
a particular type can still get any format Google offers for the document.
Google Drawings export as SVG or PDF. Google Forms can’t be exported, so
they aren’t listed (unless the drive’s show_all_gdocs option is on, and
then they don’t open).
Things to know
Section titled “Things to know”- Exports are streamed, not stored. Each open asks Google for a fresh export. The stream can’t seek, so most viewers copy it first, which is automatic.
- Edit in Google’s apps. To change a Doc, open it in Google Docs. Editing an exported copy and saving it back creates a separate file.
